Rick specializes in asset allocation and wealth management through a customized approach designed to work toward the unique and varied needs of his clientele.

Rick works to partner with his clients – understand their personal goals, financial timelines, and risk tolerance then using his expertise to provide proper advice and guidance in the world of investments. The result is an investment strategy tailored to address the specific objectives of the individuals, families, and groups he is honored to serve.

Rick graduated with honors with a bachelor of science in Business Administration and Broadcast Media Communications from Oregon State University in 1991 and has applied both areas extensively throughout his career, beginning at ESPN. There, Rick covered nearly every type of major sporting event, producing features and interviewing professional athletes, celebrities and U.S. presidents, while earning notable awards including three Emmy Awards and a Cable Ace.

Rick returned to Oregon in 1997 and co-developed the Portland branch of securities firm Wilson Davis & Company while leading the group as a partner on the trading desk. There, Rick honed his expertise in understanding the securities markets and technical chart reading as well as assisting with the financial needs of his clients on a daily basis.
Working as an independent consultant, Rick’s business acumen enabled him to strengthen small companies in their efforts to raise high-risk capital by working directly with high net worth individuals and venture groups.
In his personal time, Rick has volunteered on the Willamette University PaCE MBA Board and works with the non-profit educational speaker’s bureau - Society of Financial Awareness - helping to promote financial literacy in our community. Married and a father of two young boys – Rick understands the importance of “life/balance” in the busy lives of his clients and the importance of planning and saving hard-earned assets to help provide stability for the present and future.

*Five Star Professional, as a third party research firm, identified pre-qualified award candidates based on industry data and contacted all identified broker dealers, Registered Investment Advisor firms and FINRA-registered representatives in the Portland area to gather wealth manager nominations. Self-nominations were not accepted. Five Star Professional finalized the list of 2012 Five Star Wealth Managers to be no more than 7% of the approximately 6,080 wealth managers in the area. 1,454 award candidates in the Portland area were considered for the award, of which 260 were named 2012 Five Star Wealth Managers. Wealth managers do not pay a fee to be considered or placed on the final list of Five Star Wealth Managers. Award candidates were then evaluated against 10 criteria: (a) Credentials as an investment advisory representative, a FINRA-registered representative, a CPA or a licensed attorney; (b) Actively employed as a credentialed professional in the financial services industry for a minimum of five years; (c) Favorable regulatory and complaint history review; (d) Fulfilled their firm review based on internal firm standards; (e) Accepting new clients; (f) One-year client retention rate; (g) Five-year client retention rate; (h) non-institutionalized discretionary and/or non-discretionary client assets administered; (i) Number of client households served. (j) Educational and professional designations. Favorable and unfavorable evaluations are included in the score. Each wealth manager is reviewed for regulatory actions, civil judicial actions, and customer complaints. A favorable regulatory and complaint history is defined by Five Star Professional to mean that the wealth manager has not: *Been subject to a regulatory action that resulted in a license being suspended or revoked, or payment of a fine; *Had more than a total of three settled or pending customer complaints filed against them (excluding dismissed complaints) with any regulatory authority or through Five Star Professional’s consumer complaint process; *Individually contributed to a financial settlement of a customer complaint; *Filed for personal bankruptcy; *Been convicted of a felony. Scores reflect an average of all respondents and are not representative of any one client's evaluation. The Five Star award is not indicative of the wealth managers’ future performance. Wealth managers may or may not use discretion in their practice and therefore may not manage their clients’ assets Working with a FIVE STAR Wealth Manager does not guarantee investment success, nor is there any guarantee that the selected wealth managers will be awarded this accomplishment by Five Star Professional in the future. The inclusion of a wealth manager on the Five Star Wealth Manager list should not be construed as an endorsement of the wealth manager by Five Star Professional or the Magazine.
